Misconceptions about Entrepreneurs

Believe me, being an entrepreneur is not easy. It’s not “laid back” and definitely not for everyone.

“You’re so lucky! You don't need to work a lot”

“Your job is easier, you don't have a boss you report to”

“You have it easy, you don't need to be “on” all the time”

Trust me, I’ve heard it all!

And the fact of the matter is, I first handedly can confirm that being an entrepreneur is most of the time more challenging than everyone thinks or we make it seem.

I have worked for small and big companies, private and public companies, from a coordinator level position to a senior director level position. At the end of the day, it’s a Monday-Friday thing. Being an entrepreneur means being “on” as everyone puts it, all-the-time! But let me be clear, I absolutely love it! Working with different brands, different companies, and different people daily keeps me going. Starting a business whether it’s an Ecomm business, a Marketing agency or anything in between, being your own boss and dictating your outcome is in your control.  It’s not always all fun, but most definitely worth it!

I get asked all the time, how I had the courage to start my own agency versus continuing my career working for someone else. The short answer to that would be support & passion. You can have anything you want in life if you put your mind to it.

Here are my top 5 tips for anyone looking to become an Entrepreneur:

Tip #1 – Be ready to work off hours.

Tip #2 – Be ready to delegate – you can’t do it all!

Tip #3 – Networking and connecting with past colleagues and schoolmates are usually your best bet for business referrals and future clients.

Tip #4 – Surround yourself with likeminded people, people who are smarter than you, people with more experience than you.

Tip #5 – Being an entrepreneur means, some months you can make over $100K and other months you can make $100. Be smart with your money and save for the rainy days.

And the most asked question I get all the time? How much money can you make owning your own Marketing Agency? The answer is: as much as you want!

Put in the work and you will reap the benefits of all the sacrifices you make working nights and weekends. The great news is you are in control of your schedule. As long as you meet deadlines, you can work whenever you want, most of the time, from wherever you want. The sky is the limit!
